" . . . At the Climate Ambition Summit 2020, countries will set out new and ambitious commitments under the three pillars of the Paris Agreement: mitigation, adaptation and finance commitments. There will be no space for general statements.
These ambitious commitments will take the shape of new Nationally Determined Contributions, Long-Term Strategies setting out a pathway to net zero emissions; climate finance commitments to support the most vulnerable; and ambitious adaptation plans and underlying policies. These commitments will help to build towards a green and resilient recovery from COVID-19. . . "

“This meeting has been substantive and exceptional,” said Volkan Bozkir, wrapping up the Assembly’s 75th anniversary high-level segment, held against the backdrop of the global pandemic.
For the first time in the history of the United Nations, global leaders were not able to meet in person for the General Assembly’s annual debate, but the 193-Member body’s President said on Tuesday that the precautions forced by the COVID-19 pandemic “did not prevent multilateralism from operating at the highest levels.”

On the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing of his city, the mayor of Hiroshima warned the world about the rise of "self-centered nationalism" and appealed for greater international cooperation to overcome the coronavirus pandemic.

"I am pleased to send greetings to this dialogue on “UN75 in Hiroshima”. This year marks seventy-five years since the United Nations was born from the ashes of the Second World War.
It also marks three quarters of a century since the atomic incineration of Hiroshima and Nagasaki heralded the advent of terrible new weapons that pose an existential threat to humanity.
Since 1945, one of the United Nations’ top priorities has been the elimination of nuclear weapons. It is clearly encapsulated in Article 26 of the Charter, which calls for minimizing the “diversion for armaments of the world’s human and economic resources.” The founders did not want the world’s limited resources to be spent on weapons but on development. . . . “The tragedy of the COVID-19 pandemic has made it impossible, this year, for us to gather in countries, across the world, to mark International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action and to celebrate with community activities and events.
Now, more than ever, compassion and international assistance are needed. As such, we would like to express our deep solidarity with all those who are fighting against and affected by this dreadful virus. It will be conquered!
The mine action sector has always understood the importance of combining our efforts to eradicate the horrors, whether they are viruses or explosive hazards of war, that have plagued mankind. It is part of our DNA. Thus, we hasten to assure you that our commitment to continue to work to rid the world of explosive hazards has not faltered. We remain resolute!
On this April 4th, 2020, our special gratitude goes to all mine action personnel, UNMAS staff and others, who, in over 30 mine-affected countries, help rehabilitate health care facilities, keep access routes open for humanitarian workers, medical staff and peacekeepers and who enable communities to reach them safely.
Be blessed. Stay strong and healthy.”

World Autism Awareness Day
April 2, 2020
"On World Autism Awareness Day, we recognize and celebrate the rights of persons with autism. This year’s observance takes place in the midst of a public health crisis unlike any other in our lifetimes — a crisis that places persons with autism at disproportionate risk as a result of the corona virus and its impact on society.
Persons with autism have the right to self-determination, independence and autonomy, as well as the right to education and employment on an equal basis with others. But the breakdown of vital support systems and networks as a result of COVID-19 exacerbates the obstacles that persons with autism face in exercising these rights. We must ensure that a prolonged disruption caused by the emergency does not result in rollbacks of the rights that persons with autism and their representative organizations have worked so hard to advance."
